About us

At Studio Legal, we are excited by, and grateful for, people who create, innovate and dream big! A creative bunch ourselves, we ‘get’ our clients and are inspired to use our unique combination of legal expertise and industry experience to help our clients grow amazing, well-protected businesses.

Located in Windsor, Melbourne, we practice in intellectual property and commercial law, and work with a variety of creatively driven individuals, businesses and entrepreneurs within industries such as marketing, design, IT, the arts, fashion, beauty, entertainment, fitness and hospitality.

The position

As a lawyer with around 3-6 years PAE in general commercial law, you will be an integral part of our team, assisting our principal to run the commercial matters within our practice.  The role will involve a variety of interesting matters – no one day is the same!

Key tasks include:

-Taking initial enquiries and getting to know our clients’ businesses;
-Building effective working relationships with key clients;
-Drafting and advising on a range of commercial contracts including client services agreements, terms of trade, supplier agreements, licence agreements, NDAs and online terms & conditions;
-Advising on appropriate business structures and setting up new businesses;
-Drafting and advising on shareholders, unitholders, partnership and joint venture agreements;
-Assisting with sale of businesses, shares and assets;
-Reviewing and negotiating retail leases;
-Advising on employment law at a general level, and drafting employment and contractor agreements;
-Advising on and handling commercial disputes; and
-Building your personal brand and that of the firm through networking events, industry talks and other marketing activities.

Because of the nature of our client base, you must have a working understanding of how intellectual property sits within commercial transactions.  If you are interested, you will be mentored and trained by our team in intellectual property law, so you can develop your skills in this area.

Any practical working experience in entertainment, advertising, employment, and privacy laws will be highly regarded (but is not essential for the role). Experience with retail leasing and the Australian Consumer Law will also be highly regarded.  Additional training will be given to the successful candidate in areas of law that they may require up-skilling in.

About you

We are looking for a special person with the same values as us to join our team.  You will possess a positive, empathetic, approachable, collaborative and professional disposition at all times. You will love working with creatives and entrepreneurs, have a ‘can do’ attitude, be highly organised and hard-working, thrive in a fast-paced environment, be a team player, and enjoy building meaningful working relationships with your colleagues. An open mind is a must.

Your strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills and organisational skills will see you succeed in this role.

We will consider applicants looking for full time as well part time work.  We are also open to flexible working arrangements.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and ideally experienced in the use of Mac computers.
