Born from a love of travel and a desire to bring timeless, thoughtful craftsmanship into the home, En Gold has established itself as a leading interior, homewares and furniture brand.
Founded by wife and husband duo, Steffanie and Matt Ball, En Gold showcases pieces from designers across the globe.
This week, we interviewed En Gold Founder, Steffanie Ball, about what inspires her, her advice for aspiring homewares and interior designers, as well as what she’s learnt during lockdown.
What inspires you?
I feel most inspired when immersed in beautiful interiors. Surrounds that offer a sense of space, calming energy and welcoming aura. A full sensory experience – warm soft lighting, paired with calming tones, scents and music.
Being transported within a space like this inspires me to create and motivates me to offer pieces that curate elevated interiors.
What are three lessons you’ve learnt during lockdown?
1. The importance of self care. We have been so fortunate to have been able to continue to grow throughout the lockdowns and with this growth (along with the unease of the pandemic) I have learnt the powerful impact self care can make.
2. Knowing when to switch gears, by setting stricter boundaries with myself and time management. Time for being a mum, wife, business owner, employer and taking time for myself.
3. By carving out 30 mins in the morning to exercise, and allowing myself the calmness to meditate before bed at night. The effect has been noticed both internally and from an external perspective. This shifted everything from within, which allowed me to be better and stronger within my many roles in life!
What are you looking forward to in 2022?
I’m looking forward to seeing the many exciting things we have been working on during 2021, seeing this come to fruition.
We are eager to connect with our international business partners, travel restrictions aside, and continue to establish lasting relationships. I have formed really close bonds through the En Gold community with both craftsmen, artists and customers alike. I hope to continue to share and grow the En Gold Community, by sharing our mission and adorning people’s homes with a touch of En Gold the world over.
What are your top tips for aspiring homewares and/or interior designers?
Design from the heart. Stay connected to your work and the craftsmanship.
I believe in adorning your space with pieces that tell a story, be it vintage pieces that have lived a life prior to coming into your space, or through a unique crafting journey. Our creations and homes should have heart, soul and foster connection.
What is one thing you are obsessed with and loving right now?
At the moment, I just cannot get past a good matching pant and shirt set.
I have established quite a collection of silk, satin, velvet sets that have been getting me through my busy workdays. With very little time to think about what to wear every day, somehow I immediately feel put together, and ready to take on the day in an elevated manner!
